Quickly becoming best friends with Valene Ewing. Karen is a strong willed lady trying to keep her family together. First trying to cope with the fact that her husband's daughter from his first marriage was staying in their house. Rebelling against everything trying to destroy any kind of happiness the family held.

  Karen dealt with her own daughter Diana coming home drunk and like any other woman trying to secure her children, threatening Sid to do something with Annie or she and the kids where leaving.

  After all that was settled she dealt with Sid her husband being accused of rape by a hitchhiker, then dealing with  teenage adolescence from her daughter Diana.

  Meanwhile getting held for hostage in her own home while holding a baby shower for Ginger.

  After a car crash, Sid being seriously injured has to face raising her children alone. Sid dies and Karen's strong will and faith gets the family through.

  Building her bond with Valene, helping her cope with the loss of her husband, her children’s father.

  Later on getting help trying to find Sid's killer meets a guy named Mack Mackenzie, as rough as it was in the beginning struggling with trying to find answers, the two fall madly in love and get married.

  Karen continued being the glue that held the Cul De Sac together not to mention a little busy body always getting involved.
